77 points not enough for Meya.

KAVC women's Head coach Sam Meya gathered 77 point to make three places behind the eventual winner Anthony Ndawula in the coach of the month( September) award .

After tallying the scores of 5 judges, Mr. Anthony Ndawula(NUVC)finished top with 95 points, followed by Mr. Nason Bwesigye (UCU)with 91 points and Mr. Raffi Bachu(KCC) finished 3rd with 82 points. Mr. Sam Meya(KAVC) finished fourth with 77 points.

The women,s good run in the league and the National championship trophy should secure Meya the October Accolade.

Victory for KAVC In Tororo 2009

KAVC Women are champions in Tororo
 
Alice Oketcho led KAVC women to this years National Volleyball Championship held in Tororo 10th - 11 OCT at Children's Park Tororo in a final witnessed by UVF chief Sadik Nasiwu.

Oketcho seem to have relied on home support to silence University side NUVC. KAVC retained the title they won last year after walloping Nkumba 3-0 in the finals. Nkumba has won six trophies this season four at the expense of KAVC but could not find their winning ways as veteran player Alice Oketcho, Namanda Hadija and youthful Lillian Okiror pounced on them. Nanyondo Florence planned the assault on Nkumba.

The championship attracted 12 men’s clubs and 5 ladies Clubs from Pallisa, Kumi, Tororo, Entebbe, Mukono and Kampala. The tournament had some major upsets show cased that the playoffs and the coming seasons have a lot to offer as three of the play off teams were ejected before the semis in the men’s category these were the defending national champs Sport-S, league champs KCC, serie-B table leaders Tigers and the club that has lifted the most Accolades the Ugandan Volleyball history KAVC.

The biggest upset however was when 2007 champions KCC were walloped 3-1 by unseeded Nyero Rock Painters Volleyball club from KUMI. KCC took the first set 27-25 but was outplayed for the second, third and fourth sets by the Kumi Boys at the quarterfinals. The Teso region is renown for producing the best ever volleyballers in the country. KCC who had finished top of group D failed to match the more aggressive painters.

Injury hit KAVC men fell 3:2 to eventual winners NUVC.The men were grouped in four pools which determined the quarter final ties. Nkumba beat UCU at semis and Nemo beat Nyero Rock Painters. Nkumba are this years champions as they beat Nemostars 3-1
The ladies played the round robin format and were ranked to determine the semis KAVC eliminated UCU while Nkumba eliminated Nemostars.

KAVC Women and NUVC Men are now set to represent Uganda In next years continental encounter.

Sport S survives KAVC in Mukono

Hard fighting KAVC men lost 3:2 to Sport S at the 5th Edition of the UCU open Championship held in Mukono. The 3rd-4th October event attracted teams in clubs and institution categories both men and women.

KAVC edged the defending champsKCC 2-0 to make it to the finals as Sport-S overcame a hard fighting Nemostars by the same margin, to book the other spot.In the final Sport-S beat KAVC 3-2.

In the ladies category KCC beat UCU 2-1 as Nkumba beat Nemo stars 2-1. The defending champs KAVC did not make it past the group stages as the lost to KCC and Nemostars.

NUVC Women completed a double by wining the women club and Institutions title after KCC faile to show up at Namboole. The Womens Club final was reschedule to 17th Oct at Namboole due to bad lighting.

INSTITUTIONS

In the men UCU relied on a better tie break to beat Kyambogo, KIU to the championship they ended up the 2nd and 3rd respectively while Nkumba were the 4th.

In the ladies Nkumba University won all its matches to emerge victorious edging UCU by one point and Kyambogo by 2points.
