Ainebyona Fails Lido Test.

Amon Ainebyona pairing with Johnson Kawenyera failed to replicate their Mombasa treat at Lido beach as they fell Luke Eitite and Cairo Bound Yakan Lawrence at the 4th leg of the club beer national beach volleyball circuit.

Ainebyona who masterminded the medal win at the Mombasa meet last month could not match the defensive pair of Luke and Yakan.

Tonny Lakony, Peter Buyungo, Hanington Nsubuga, Richard Tamale and Innocent Komakech were also the KAVC lot that failed to make it to the medal bracket.

Attention now shifts to the National Volleyball League where a repeat of last year scenario is next door. KAVC takes on KCC at a date to be communicated.

Stars show case for national squad calling

Mercy Tabitha and Andrina Namata lived to their billing lifting the women’s trophy in the 4th leg of the club beer national beach volleyball circuit. The duo outwitted Kenyan pair of Julia Sakaya / Anita Yelena in a 1 – 0 exciting final. Tabitha and Namata were among the squad that travelled to Mombasa last month and they seem to have gathered good acumen to achieve this fit. They had earlier seen off Sharon Pajije & Hafsa Nakalema in the semifinal 1-0 while the Sakaya’s had beaten Alice Okecho and Lillian Okiror in the other semifinal .

The men’s category saw Lawrence Yakan back paired with Luke Eittit to stop favorites Jeff Lwalanda and Isaac Omedo 1-0 in a tough final. Yakan who has been missing in action for the past 3 events demonstrated that he still has the resilience it requires to demolish any opponent. Yakan and Eittit in the semifinal beat Amon Ainebyona and Johnson Kawenyera 1-0 while the Lwalanda’s stopped promising pair of Deo Nsereko and Henry Bbaale also 1-0 in the second semifinal.

It was indeed a test of wits as Uganda prepares to field a record 10 teams in the Ugandan hosted International slated for the 7th and 8th of November at Lido Beach. The technical team was kept busy examining the participants yesterday with 20 women’s teams and 17 men’s teams in contention.

Moses Buhanga represented Nile breweries at the awards ceremony while the crew from Leone Island of Jose Chameleon graced the awards as chief guests. Both Luke Eittit and Diana Agaba retained top spot in the national seeding in spite of not picking the days honors.
